On User Experience
“It’s not the product that should be insanely great, but the experience of being your user.”

Tim Ferris interviews Neil Strauss

“You get one shot at life, you have to do what you’re passionate about…ask yourself, what would I be doing if I didn’t get paid for it, and do that”
Tim Ferris interviews best-selling author, Neil Strauss about creative writing. It’s a good watch, much of the advice can be applied to any creative field. Topics include internships, inspiration and workflow.
Mailchimp
The new Mailchimp site is impressive to say the least. It’s spacious design and subtle info-graphic animations really bring it to life. I especially like the homepage video which demonstrates how the app works so elegantly, you barely notice what it is. The site is beautifully responsive too.

Speaking of subtle, they’ve also reworked the Mailchimp logotype. Jessica Hische was called upon for the subtle redesign and she has a great post about the work on her website

Ajax Arena Logo
Here’s an interesting fact I learnt about the AFC Ajax’s logo (Dutch football team) whilst touring the Amsterdam Arena last week: It is drawn using eleven lines – one for each team player on the pitch.
I love finding out the subtle details like that. A bit like the moment you notice the hidden arrow in the Fed Ex Logo.
The whole stadium is full of some fantastic interior design (excuse the iffy photo quality, they were quick iPhone snaps):
A funky Amsterdam bar
Following on from my last post, here are some photos from a very unique bar just outside the Ajax. I love the attention to detail on the decor. Had to gatecrash a private party to get these snaps but it was worth it:
More Case Studies Coming Soon
I’m currently working going through old sketches and development work to add to the project case studies on this website. Should have some more up by the end of next week!

Here’s a great short video outlining UX Design:
Leap Motion
So it’s launch date has been pushed back slightly but not long now until the Leap Motion controller is available to order! Can’t wait to get my hands on (or over) this magical piece of kit.
Whoa, Google has Designers
I’ve just been watching the presentation below, where Jon Wiley, a User Experience Designer at Google, talks about Google’s visual refresh back in 2011. A very interesting insight into how the Google design team operate.
I’m particularly fond of Google’s index card style design. Also, how dated does the pre-2010 Google interface look?!
Pointing to the Future of UI
Remember the data interface from Minority Report? Well, it’s real, John Underkoffler invented it – and it’s about to change the way we interact with data.
“That’s the old way, that’s the old mantra: one machine, one human, one mouse, one screen. Well, that doesn’t really cut it anymore.”
